Yesterday a forest fire broke out in Tikal making the forest trees attenuate. There are many theories to how the fire started. One theory suggests that a volcano went off in a nearby village, two days ago. Others suggest that a man dropped a an implament in the forest, possibly a torch, unaware of what it could do. There has not been rain in two weeks, giving the possibility that even a little spark could set the dry trees into a blaze.

Evidence leans towards the theory of a torch being dropped in the woods, since a burned torch was found were the most damage was done, however the way the dirt was tenuous, and formed suggest a volcano was involved.

A nearby temple that was built 11 years ago was destroyed. The fire reached the bottom of the temple and spread until the outer parts of the temple were completely black.

There are many interpretations of what happened. The village priest insists that the holy sun god didn’t allow Chac to bring rain, and summoned the fire god. Men from different villages believe that the gods summond them to set fire to Tikal. The citizens in Tikal believe that the village Twetzbetan had set men to set fire to Tikal, and wage war against Tikal. However most people believed this was an expletive of the assistant to the priest, who had complyed to the priests orders in Twetzbeta, to set fire to Tikal, but the priest defended himself, and his assistant.
