In 1268, Kublai Khan, the fierce Mongol leader, sent messangers to Japan stating that Japan was to surrender or face the consequences. However, Japan refused to surrender, and sent the messangers back. Khan sent 800 Korean ships and 30,000 men to conquer Japan in 1274.
On Kyushu Japan and Khan's forces met. After only a day of fighting, they were forced to set sail or be dashed against the rocks.
Khan sent messangers again, telling Japan to surrender or die. Japan made it clear that they weren't surrendering by killing the messangers. Khan got so angry that he created the biggest armada ever made. More than 3,500 ships were made. 140,000 men were preparing for an invasion of Japan.
In 1281, the second attack took place. At night, Japan would kill the members of the Mongol ships. Then one day, a massive storm took place. It was called "kamikaze," or "divine wind." The Mongol ships were either slashed by the rocks or slashed by the samurais on the shore.
